Library Club

Tsugumi Shirasaki

Kakei has a close relationship with Shirasaki, the two were actually classmates but officially met when he saved her from being struck by a train while she was passing flyers. Though having good intentions, Kakei was mistaken for fondling Shirasaki when he accidentally landed on her. Shirasaki cleared up this misunderstanding and asked Kakei to help with her school activity project. Though reluctant he decided to help her as he became interested in Shirasaki and wanted to know more about her intentions. In episode 2, when Takamine questioned the reason for picking up trash Kakei supports her plans by telling him they would do anything to further the Happy Project which elates her. While passing out flyers, she was sad that nobody was interested but Kakei cheers her up by saying they need to keep trying until someone takes a flyer. This made her remark about how it was similar to picking up girls, she asked if he ever did so and states he probably could get a lot of girls when he mentioned that he never tried. This caused him to ask if he would able to get her which made her blush until he tells her he's joking, leaving her frantic and annoyed as he is left amused.

Over time, the two developed a great relationship with Kakei supporting and helping Shirasaki in her school project plans. During episode 3, he blushed when Kodachi accused him of dating Shirasaki after she spotted them in a compromising state but he denied they were dating. In episode 4, Shirasaki was jealous of the close relationship between Kakei and Kodachi. She had firmly asked to speak with him alone, which he nervously agreed to. They went to a park where Shirasaki gave him cookies and asked if it was okay if she got his answer for his decision to stay in the Happy Project. Shirasaki soon confided into Kakei about her reason for starting the Happy Project was for her little sister who was in the hospital. When Shirasaki called herself an awful person for lying about her time in school, Kakei told her she was the opposite as she was making her lies true lifting her spirits and the two parted with Kakei promising to give his answer the next day. When Kakei arrived, he was greeted with a surprise birthday party where he decided to become a full time member of the happy project. Shirasaki was overjoyed to hear this and happily embraced him.

Unknown to Kakei, Shirasaki began to develop romantic feelings for him and started to become jealous whenever Kakei was in the company of Nagi Kodachi or another girl. In episode 5, she saw Kakei and Maho Mochizuki talking and laughing, seemingly jealous at their closeness. At the end of the episode 6, she is excited when Kakei returns to the club and makes him tea before asking of if he didn't have to be with Kodachi which he confirms. He soon asks if she was waiting for him and she nervously denies this but a smiling Kakei thanks her as she restates that she wasn't waiting while smiling. It also turns out she looked up a love site where she found a recipe for cookies which she baked in hopes to eat one with Kakei who without letting Shirasaki finish her explanation of the cookies ate the last one comically shocking her and confusing him. In episode 7, she and the other girls wonder about Kakei's type of girl and she thinks he may like a girl like her who can cook. When Kakei arrives, she suddendly asks him to go on date with her and the other girl club members which shocked him and the other girls. While on the date, after a shepherd assignment regarding her came up, Kakei had to hug her and pretend she was his girlfriend to prevent it from occurring. She was so flustered from the hug that she couldn't come up with a proper excuse for the date when Kakei question her about it. This caused him to remark that he knew she couldn't lie. He was also surprised to learn the reason for the date was to find which of the four girls in the club was one he preferred after they received an anonymous email.

In episode 8, while worrying about Kana he asks her a question about a book that predicts the future (which indirectly responds to shepherds) and if she'd read it, he is left in admiration that she would not do so remarking on how she is strong. In episode 9, after visiting her sister she tells the club about Minafest and when she informs them her sister gave her the idea of creating the event Kakei says he hopes they can repay her in the future. Shirasaki blushed while looking at the smiling Kakei.

In episode 10, Kakei was visited and asked by Shirasaki to pretend to be her boyfriend when they met with the latter's younger sister Sayori at the hospital which shocked him. After Shirasaki left, Kakei was left blushing at such a request but he seemingly agreed as he goes with Shirasaki the next day. During the visit, Kakei had learned from Shirasaki's sister that she talks about him all the time even his alter-ego as a maid. When Shirasaki stepped out, Sayori revealed she is aware of the lie and stated she wanted to thank him for everything he and the club members have done for her sister. While smiling, Kakei explains he was grateful to Shirasaki as she brought the club together. He gets embarrassed when Sayori tells the returning Shirasaki that he loves everything about her and state they seem in love which makes Shirasaki faint. Sayori then tells a blushing Kakei to take care of her sister. As repayment for helping her, Shirasaki offered to cook for Kakei who went through great lengths to prevent her from seeing Kodachi at his house. Later on, Sayori (who was released from the hospital) and Shirasaki visited Kakei, they find him at his house with Kodachi. Although Kakei tried to explain the situation, it was not believed as Kodachi made it worse. When Sayori was talking with Shirasaki, she stated that Shirasaki liked Kakei which seemed to surprise an overhearing Kakei. After a situation with her sister is resolved, Shirasaki learned about Shepherds and how Kakei was considering being one. After walking her home in silence, Shirasaki asked him if he was going away but he explained that he was not as everyone will just lose their memories of him which made her state that's the same as going away and caused her to beg him to stay. Shirasaki then confessed to Kakei that she liked him which greatly shocked Kakei before Shirasaki quickly covered up her words and said she liked him as a normal person which led to an awkward moment between them. The two parted with Kakei being a little surprised at what he learned from Shirasaki. The next day, the two nervously greeted each other with both blushing heavily, showing that Kakei reciprocated some of her feelings. They stare at each other and try to say something though their moment is broken up by Kana and Misono.

In episode 11, after the library club had been taken over due to the vice president's scheming the club learned it was from the shepherd. A worried Shirasaki looked to Kakei, who noticing this shook his head relieving her. Later on, she is jealous when Kakei and Kodachi talk to each other. Kakei soon learned that Shirasaki would be in an accident and not knowing of another way to save her, he became a shepherd. After Kakei became a shepherd, Shirasaki confronted him after her memories of him started to disappear when Kakei did not give an answer it led to a moment of tense silence before Shirasaki kissed him. Though shocked at this, he soon returned the kiss and without giving the full details of why he became a shepherd he told her it was something he had to take care of. In response, Shirasaki rejected his explanation and stated she hated him for this actions. Kakei did express regret at his decision but knew it was for the best even if Shirasaki was mad.

In episode 12, Shirasaki is still upset by this but after Kakei manages to save her, she learned the true reasons for his actions was simply to protect her which caused her to feel guilty for her harsh words and silently apologize to him. As a show of gratitude, she gave a speech in which she indirectly thanked him for his actions and his support of her goals. When Kakei was fired from his role as a shepherd, he informed her that he would still end up forgotten (unaware of his book being restored) but Shirasaki told him she would never forget him before happily embracing him. She later went over to his house with the intention of wanting to make him dinner.

Tamamo Sakuraba

Kakei and Tamamo have a good relationship, the two were actually classmates but officially met after Tamamo confronted him about the incident with Shirasaki. At first, Tamamo was hostile towards him for his supposed fondling of her friend and was prepared to attack him until Shirasaki cleared up the misunderstanding and Tamamo apologized to him. Tamamo and Shirasaki then join Library Club and began to work with him on various activities for the Happy Project. Initially, Tamamo did not show any feelings for Kakei as she treated him rather casually in the first three episodes. However, in episode 4, while hanging out she asked Kodachi about her close friendship with Kakei causing the latter to remark she seemed very keen to know which made Tamamo blush and deny such a thing. She also got jealous along with the other girls when Kodachi mention that she goes over to Kakei's room and gave him the silent treatment upon leaving to his confusion. Despite this, she still took part in his surprise birthday party and was very happy to hear when he decided to become a full-time member of the Happy Project. In the beginning of episode 5, she giggles when Kakei is embarrassed after remembering being in a maid costume. Later on, while speaking with Takamine who remarked about Tamamo possibly overworking herself, Kakei goes to the library to check on her. He visits her while she is working which surprises her and causes to her nearly fall in her chair until he saves her which makes her blush. He walks her through the rain with his umbrella and talks with her, expressing his worry for her which causes her to blush even more as they continue to walk and she gets closer to him. While on the train she reveals she get uneasy if she isn't working which causes Kakei to tell her that the hard work she does is appreciated but she should relax more and have fun which is the point of their club activity. Touched by his consideration, she took his advice and fell asleep on his shoulder, Kakei attempted to wake her but seeing her having a relaxing sleep caused him to smile and he allowed her to stay there. It is at this point, where Tamamo developed romantic feelings for Kakei as shown when she got jealous after Kana and Misono talked about Kakei spending time with Kodachi again. At the end of the episode, she called him to ask for his help on a certain day while nervously stating she wasn't asking him out on a date which caused her to blush. Kakei tells her he'll help out and asks if she has an umbrella since it was raining again. Tamamo confirmed she did and the two ended the call. In episode 6, she is seen trying to call him for unknown reasons and receiving no answer and blushes at her concern for him. When Misono later mentions Kakei being with Kodachi, Tamamao expresses jealously towards Kakei's continued close "relationship" with Kodachi angrily remarking on how things seem to be progressing between them. She even attempts to eavesdrop on their conversation at the end of the episode.

In the beginning of episode 7, she and the other girls wonder about Kakei's type of girl and she thinks he may like a girl like her who is organized and can provide love and care. She and the other girls arrive at Kakei's house when he is late and while there she organizes his books while berating him for that. When Kakei mentions she has no reason to comment as she doesn't live there, Tamamo replies that might not always be the case confusing him before Tamamo (realizing what she just said) corrects herself. Later while on the date with Kakei, the girls pick out clothes for Tamamo and Kakei is shocked when seeing her in a dress and blushes. In return, she blushes full red when he says she looks cute in the dress and quickly runs to change into her regular clothes. When her lunch plan don't go well she is sadden until Kakei helps by suggesting another place to eat something that relieves her. She is also jealous when he hugs Shirasaki but gets flustered when Kakei tells her he did it as he and Kodachi were curious about what she and the other girls were hiding and the reason for the date. In episode 8, the two perform in one of Kana's plays and her bikini top falls into his hand she kicks him along with Misono. But that was shrugged off, as she would later pretend to accidentally bump into him for advice. After following him, she tells Kakei of a message she got from the Shepherd and blushes when he gets close to her to read the message and she stares at him intently. In episode 9, she confides in Kakei of why she spoke harshly to Misono by revealing she enjoys art and wanted to become an artist before her parents forced her to give it up which is why she wanted Misono to keep singing. As she and Kakei talked, she blushed when he compliments her art until her phone rang and told her of a new message and she frantically answered to show him a shepherd message. In episode 11, when a picture of Kakei and Mochizuki eating lunch stating he joined the student council is uploaded, she was angered at Kakei for supposedly joining the student council but mostly it seemed she was jealous at the picture of Kakei and Mochizuki. When Kakei explained everything, she was relieved that he was still in the club.

During episode 12, Kakei inspired everyone to do their best in the school festival and she along with the rest of the club cheered. She was jealous and angry with Kana and Misono who were flirting with Kakei and sent them away for other activities. She then spoke with Kakei stating she believes he deserves a reward for leading the club this far which made him blush as she got close to him while asking what reward would make him happy. It appears that after Shirasaki's confession, Kakei has become aware of her feelings as well as he was nervous in his talk with her. Her flirting would be ceased after Kana and Misono spy on them which surprised and caused both of them to fully blush red in their faces. Tamamo nervously walked off to confront the two while Kakei looked on. At the end of the episode, she and the rest of club go to Kakei's house to hang out.

Kana Suzuki

Kakei first meets Kana while she was working at her job as a waitress when he and Takamine were eating lunch while Takimine was joking with her, Kakei said she didn't have to humor him before she said likes making customers happy. While on the date it is revealed that she has love for books and that she reads some of the books Kakei while she was at his room with others. She is also jealous when Kodachi visits to join them on the date and when he kisses Shirasaki. She is flustered when Kakei tells her he did it as he and Kodachi were curious about what she and the other girls were hiding and the reason for the date.

In episode 8, he helps her with a play and she blushes when he recites a line that sounded real. He expresses worry when she doesn't come to school and helps get her out of her depression when one of her plays is ruined and after she tells him of her sad past. He tells her he will by her side and hugs causing her to break down in tears of joy. At the end, while talking to Misono she gets surprised when she jokingly tells her that she might take Kakei for herself. In episode 11, she along with Misono believe Kakei is leaving their club to join the student council and try to use their feminine charms to prevent him from leaving only to fail and Kakei having to inform them he isn't leaving which relieves them. It appears that after Shirasaki's confession, Kakei has become aware of her feelings as well as he was blushing in this experience.

In episode 12, she confides into Kakei about her joy when people laugh at her play and frantically tries to say what they are doing after Misono spots her with Kakei. Senri Misono

Kakei first met Misono when she was trying to reach some money she dropped and Kakei retrieved it for her. She thanks him by buying him a drink before leaving the area as Kakei finds an instrument belonging to her and it turns out that Misono was very famous in the school but Kakei is the only one who never heard of her. Kakei then helps Shirasaki with returning it as soon as possible. When Misono sadly asked Shirasaki if she was returning it just because she was the song princess, Kakei joked with her before stating they would like for her to join the Happy Project something considered. In episode 4, when Misono got sick the library club tended to her and when Misono ran out of the Appilio due to a comment Shirasaki made which caused Misono to mistakenly assume the others helped because of her singing reputation. Kakei (in his maid costume) caught up to her and explained Shirasaki just made a bad choice of words and really does care for her. With this Misono cheered up and laughed at Kakei's maid outfit before returning to the Appilio where she saw that he was right when Shirasaki continued to scrambled her words. Later, Misono expressed jealously along with the other girls about Kakei's relationship with Kodachi and gave him the silent treatment upon leaving to his confusion. She does express happiness at his surprise birthday party. In episode 6, Misono shows her jealous side again when Kakei leaves with Kodachi for Shepherd work. She attempts to eavesdrop on their conversation at the end of the episode. In episode 11, she along with Kana believe Kakei is leaving their club and try to use their feminine charms to prevent him only to fail him and Kakei informing them he isn't leaving. In that same episode, she wanted to sing in order to help the club event and kisses Kakei on the head while telling him to wish her luck. Kakei was surprised but could only touch his head with a smile. It appears that after Shirasaki's confession, Kakei has become aware of her feelings as well as he was blushing in this experience.

She jealously stares at Kakei and Tamamo when she flirts with him after sending after sending her and kana away. At the end of the episode, she and the rest of club go to Kakei's house to hang out.

Ikkei Takamine

Takamine is Kakei's classmate and his first friend before the Happy Project joined the Library Club. It is shown in the first episode that Takamine is a very loyal friend to Kakei as he was willing to defend him when Kakei was accused of fondling Shirasaki. Takamine also joined the Library Club where the plans of the Happy Project took place. In episode 4, he asked Kakei about his plans for the Happy Project and could tell he made a decision. Takamine also remembered Kakei's birthday from their first meeting and told the other members of the Library Club who threw Kakei a surprise party and he was happy to hear Kakei state he will be a full-time member of the Happy Project. As time goes on, Takamine has been surprised and happy to see the influence the club has had on Kakei. It is shown that Takamine can be a little jealous of Kakei because of all the attention Kakei gets from the girls in their club as shown in episodes 5, 6 and 7. Despite that, in episode 11, he was very sad to hear that Kakei might be leaving the club and joining the council but was relieved to hear Kakei state that wasn't the case showing he is happy have Kakei be a member. In episode 12, Kakei encourages the library club to try their best to make Minafest a success which they accomplished. She tries multiple times to get him to join the Student Council due to his good grades and skill in academics but is rejected by Kakei who has no interest in such a position. At the end of episode 1, she tries to persuade Kakei from joining the Happy Project only to be denied as Takamine states she won't make friends with that attitude and Maho states (while blushing) she's not trying to be friends with Kakei only for him to slyly ask who says he was talking about Kakei. When Kakei doesn't appear to go back on his word of joining Shirasaki, Maho leaves but states she will take care of the incident involving him and Shirasaki. Family

Unnamed Father

lmayo is Kakei's father, he did not make an appearance but he is mentioned in episode 10, when Kakei stated that his father disappeared sometime ago but before that he married Nagi Kodachi's mother. It is unknown what their relationship was like but in episode 11, Kakei mentioned their were times where he needed his father's help but the latter wouldn't help and Kakei doesn't want to be like him as he wanted to help his friend Shirasaki which was his reason for him wanting to be a Shepherd.

Kakei has no idea that his former supervisor who wanted him to be a shepherd is his father.

Nagi Kodachi

Is a member of the library committee and his next door neighbor, Kakei encountered Kodachi multiple times while he was with the library club. Unknown to him, it was Kodachi who sent him messages that led to Kakei meeting Tsugumi and the other members of the Library club. Upon Kakei becoming a candidate for Shepherd, Kodachi saw Kakei as completion for the role and tried to unsuccessfully sabotage him by sending him fake emails under the name Shepherd. In episode 3, while sleeping he has a dream about him and a man (presumably his father) leaving a house, as a girl's voice tells them not to go. When he awakes, he wonders about the dream confused by it. Kodachi visits his home to watch TV and during her visit she tells him to keep his relationship with Shirasaki somewhere else while he (failingly) tries to explain the situation. In episode 4, while accompanying the library club to hang out she asks which girl is his type which he ignores. Later on, Tamamo and Shirasaki note that she seems very friendly with Kakei which makes her realize that the girls in the library club all have feelings for Kakei and she decides to make them all jealous by making up a supposed relationship between the two. In episode 5, when the library club can't remember Kodachi it is Kakei who makes them recall their time with her. While speaking with her shepherd supervisor, she learns Kakei has passed the first step and she most likely won't be a shepherd because of her emails. Later she visits Kakei and he sees a blank future which makes her realize he can see the future. At the end, he founds out she doesn't live in the apartment next door and questions her about the recent events before her shepherd supervisor appears.

In episode 6, he discovers that her supervisor wants to make Kakei a shepherd. When her supervisor tells Kakei to follow Kodachi's lead on assignments she tells him what it means to be a shepherd and to quit before its too late. He later helps her shepherd cases and they work well together and Kakei comforts her by patting her on the head after she made a mistake. At the end, Kakei and the club that Library has given them full permission to use their clubroom after she put in a good word as Kakei thanks her. Kodachi simply tells him, she repaid him for the favor he did for her but she will be the one to be a Shepherd as he tells her that he hasn't decided if he was going for it. As they talk, some of the girls attempt to eavesdrop on their conversation. In episode 7, it is noted of their close relationship as when the library club are sent an anonymous email asking what type of girl Kakei likes, they all start wondering over what type of girl Kakei prefers. Takamine soon states he thought Kakei was dating Kodachi only to get scared when the girls get angry and jealous as they recall Kakei constantly being with Kodachi. This is shown again as when the girls arrive at Kakei's home and he mistakenly believes it to be Kodachi causing them to have the same angry reaction. When Kodachi arrives, she decides to go shopping with them asking once more which of the four girls is his type but he shrugs her off. At the end, Kakei learns that it was Kodachi who sent the email to get him to stop trying being a shepherd. When he mentions that once a person becomes a Shepherd they will be forgotten, she asks if he would really want to continue now that he has such good friends. He asks her is she really okay with people not remembering her as she confirms that she is as she is determined to fulfill her dream. When Kakei mentions he'll forget her, she tearfully agrees before running back and kissing him stating he'll forget about it and her before leaving as he calls out to her.

After that, in future episodes Kakei continues helping Kodachi on assignments and she helps him with the problems his friends face.

In episode 9, she tries to implore him not to have Misono give up singing but he remains steadfast even tell Kodachi to fulfill her own desires. In the next meeting, they talk and she runs off, much to his shock. During a trip to the shepherd's library, Kakei asked about Kodachi's path if he became a shepherd before he read Kodachi's book and discovered that Kodachi was his step-sister. When she appears, he nervously calls her "Nagi" and after confirming he read her book, Kodachi called him an idiot for taking too long to remember her before calling him "Big Brother Kyōtarō" as he reacts in shock.
